Dirt Dogs
Tomorrow is my birthday. I am incredible excited. I still look forward to getting older, especially turning 16. I get my permit tomorrow, though I do not know when I will get my license because Massachusetts thinks the smart thing to do is to change the age. I think drivers ed should be modified before the age is changed, but since I am not eighteen yet I do not have a say in it (stupid, since I'm the one who actually sees what goes on in drivers ed and talks to kids who have crashed their cars).
On a baseball note, I turned to www.bostondirtdogs.com today to see what they would have to say about Bard's passed balls, and was taken aback to see this:

Don't Be a Hater, 'Cause He's Not a Traitor
If You're Going to Fenway Monday, Do the Right Thing
and Show Johnny What We're Made Of
Now I am a regular visitor on dirtdogs, as I often enjoy the humor and zany pictures I find on their site. However, this full out campaign to get Johnny a standing ovation is absolutely ridiculous. They have had a banner on the top of the screen for weeks now, counting down the day until Johnny's return, linking to pictures of his heroics for the Sox.
Typically, I would not really care what dirtdogs chose to show on their site. I have been ignoring the Johnny Damon standing O line for a while now. But dirtdogs was just as angry with Johnny when he left as I was, calling him "The Pinstripes Pinhead", and saying "Rock Star Talk was Cheap Trick." Just last month they cracked jokes about Damon's endless commentary on all things Red Sox, even writing a headline which read: "Yes, Those Were the Days Johnny. Get Over It".
So what is with all the Johnny Damon fanfare? I would never applaud Johnny Damon again after the way he stabbed the Boston fans in the back this winter, then would not shut up about it for four months. The hypocritical folks at dirtdogs are not going to change my mind. Yes, I will always appreciate what he helped the Sox accomplish in 2004. That does not mean I have to be kind to him when he returns to Fenway.
What about you?

I feel your pain, but the guy did help bring the Sox their first World Championship in 86 years. Most would argue he was even "the face of the Red Sox" that year. Personally, adn I'm not just saying this because he's now a Yankee, but he does deserve some form of applause. Maybe not a standing O, but a nice round-of-applause would show him some appreciation (and class)for what he did for the franchise back in 2004.
Of course, I would only do it on his first plate appearance. After that, I'd boo the living s*** out of him every time he stepped to the plate or made a play.
I'm going to guess he'll get a mixed reception, which is understandable. It really depends on how you look at him at how he left Boston.
Happy B'Day!

He deserves applause. Mostly because of what Jason said in the comment before me.
And bostondirtdogs is always hypocritical.

Happy birthday Arielle! Yeah, our wonderful pols react to more Junior Operator deaths by doing the politically convenient thing, as opposed to the right thing. So, what, a Junior Operator only has a JOL for six months before getting a full licence? Sure, extend the permit time to twelve months; that's cool. Also, develop alternate means of transportation (I'm still waiting for the Commuter Rail extension to the South Coast where my mother and stepfather live). Problem is, nothing is really going to change until somebody actually runs against these guys. Will you support my candidacy in two years? :-D
Honestly, I did not receive my licence until just before I turned 21, mostly because I am a lazy *******. I still do not drive that much, because I do not have the money for a car or the insurance. It has not been a major issue, because I live close enough to the city in order to be able to get wherever I need to go. I can get buses to Harvard Square, Central Square, Kenmore Square, and downtown, so it's not a problem if I want to go out for the evening.
Johnny went to the hated rivals, then mouthed off about how much better it is down there. There's a reason they have only made two trades in the past 20 years; apparently, Johnny does not get it. For that alone, he deserves to receive some jeers.

They solved the half-arsed (half-a r s e d) problem. Sorry for the extra comments.
